Bali is a magical place When you spend more than vacation time in a place you start to see collages emerging Time past & present, culture new & old Balinese textile weaving traditions can be traced back to before 10th century. Fabric is not just for daily attire but for ceremonial dress, shrines and scared objects too. Silk and cotton are grown, treads dyed for up to a year in natural extracts, and certain cloth can take a year to weave. Labour intensive, yes, but imbibed with the soul of the island itself. Modern, faster means of production along with synthetic dyes threaten the authenticity and ecology of this traditional process. Will Bali's textile traditions survive another century?
